Con
Are the stories real? Can you make A living trading forex?
The internet today is rife with numerous forex trading victories. Are they just another cheap PR to get unsuspecting victims to embark on forex trading? The truth is there have been plenty of genuine forex trading success stories. But it all depends on you. How willing are you to work? How ready are you to learn the process?
Professional forex trader ezekiel chew has put down some seven noteworthy ways to become an excellent forex trader, beat the majority, and scale to impressive heights.
1. Learn the trade before you trade
Despite how exciting the process of trading may seem, it is always better you look, or in this case study, before you leap. That’s right. The better part of your excitement should be spent learning the art of trading.
Any tom, dick, and harry can open an account and start trading, but it takes so much more to make the money you dream of. Not to mention the tendency to be easily frustrated and to incur huge amounts of debt when you do not understand the process well.
How can you learn? A proper forex trading course is the best place to start your journey towards a successful forex trading path. They’ll teach you all the rudiments of trading independently and provide you with ample knowledge of trading strategies for the long run. You’re also sure to get follow on support when you embark on trading.
Make sure to be wary of scammers who promise quick success in a short period. A simple hack is that a good trading school will never promise such. They’ll only promise to teach you everything you need to know to trade effectively.
2. Set up A demo trading account
If you want to practice the trading process and get accustomed to the nitty-gritty involved, a demo account is an answer to your prayers. It enables you to practice forex trading on a “demo” capital, which is not real capital. This is because a demo account does not require capital to function.
Some of the perks are it helps you to get used to the trading interface and the process of placing orders on dummy trades. So when you do eventually start really trading, your boat would be smooth-sailing. A demo trading account provision is available on several trading platforms.
3. Beginning A piecemeal at A time
Trust us, you do not want to throw in a large amount of money at the initial stage of your trading quest. For one thing, a lot is at stake when you do, plus the emotional upheaval this may cause.
As a newbie, it’s best you start trading with a small amount of money and in the process, master the skill. You'll also have a lesser tendency to risk your account in the process. Leverage and margin also give you the ability to start really small. A good trading school will teach you all you need to know about leverage and margin.
4. Do not feel overwhelmed; price action is all that matters
Do not fall into the bandwagon of nouveau traders who clutter their chart with so many indices. Best believe it, at the end of the day, price action trading is all that matters. This cluttering of your chart also diverts your attention from what matters in the grand scheme of things, and you’re often rendered immobile from the numerous factors to consider.
And of a truth, technical analysis is not hard to decipher. It’s all about buying at very low prices and selling at a high price. The same way a trader would want to purchase goods in a store or from a manufacturer at low prices and sell to customers at a high price.
You will find that a good number of institutional traders do not care to crowd their charts with several indicators. They simply analyze prize levels and make a decision either to buy or sell within these prize ranges.
5. Find A forex trading strategy that works
We like to think that several indicators on a chart are like several stick-it notes on a refrigerator. You most likely placed them there to remind you of important things. But because they are many, they end up confusing and even frustrating you.
A good forex trading strategy that works need not be complicated. What is important is that it gives you an edge in the market. Look at trading in the long run. When your wins are more than your losses, you will be profitable. Finding the right forex trading strategy that is time tested through a series of successful backtesting is highly important.
Start off by mastering one strategy in a single pair. Swing trading strategies are one of them. Only move on to the next pair or strategy when you are profitable in a series of three sets of 20 trades. This way, you have a clear idea on whether or not you are profitable when compared to someone who is trading a range of different strategies and various pairs.
6. Trade within your limit
It is important to remember that a lot could go wrong with any trade at any given time. Do not be tempted to trade outside your accepted risk exposure in a week. Especially as a new trader, you could easily bankrupt your account in a short time when you trade above your limit.
Another advice is to count your losses and never keep a trade beyond the loss of its value. If chances allow, you ought to move to protective stop loss to decrease your losses. You also want to go the extra mile of protecting your profits by taking profits at strong levels.
One more thing: you should make use of trailing stops to protect winnings and at the same time creating an avenue for it to grow.
7. Keep track of your trading journey
There’s a reason why companies hire firms to audit their account. While your forex trading may not be the same as a company, they are both business ventures with the aim of making a profit. This way, you can determine how your trading has been going within a period of time. Your losses too should be accurately accounted for.
Keeping a record also serves as a practical lesson. Trading is essentially a lot of learning and a little doing. How fast you learn from your mistakes and apply your newfound knowledge will go a long way in projecting your profits and boosting your morale.
We understand that the art of forex trading can prove to be an emotional rollercoaster especially for the newly indoctrinated. However, it is important to take any losses with a grain of salt, for it is a part of the whole process of trading. Sometimes you win, other times you lose. What is important, however, is that you learn from your losses and wins too.
One strategy is to always make plans and be deliberate about those plans. Try to map out a clear cut pattern to attain any goal you set. Diligence and experience are what make a successful forex trader. And a right attitude to loss is what makes it a learning experience.
Some of the things you could include in your record taking include:
- The date the trade was made
- Screenshot of the chart of every trade
- Explanation of where the trade was taken and reasons for the execution
- Write out your performance in the trade
- Write out how your performance makes you feel.
Creating a word document can help with all this.

- If you somehow dislike conditions and terms offered by the broker – simply skip the promotion. Let’s investigate the ways that may help you find the best bonus in FX. First of all, bonuses must be easy to understand and transparent in general conditions. If you see non-explicit information presented, avoid the promotion or ask the broker for clarification.
- If you wish to take part in the particular promotion and start forex trading without investment, then do not overlook terms and conditions. Even the smallest detail must be in your sight. A free bonus is actually not always 100% free. Some brokers may ask you to deposit some money in order to collect your profits. Indeed, such promotions are scams.
- Be attentive, because some forex brokers can demonstrate a good opportunity with their no deposit bonus, however it may ask to complete the trading volume requirement. Stay away from the bonus that asks to complete more than 1 lot for $10 to further unlock the profits and balance.
- Bonuses can vary in terms of geographical location requirements. Therefore, ensure that FX bonus accounts of the broker are given in your country as well if you desire to start forex trading without investment. Furthermore, there can be account restrictions. This means that no deposit bonuses may not always be available for every account at a particular broker. Thus, check whether you applied for a correct account.
- In addition, make sure what instruments can be traded to withdraw your profit before you begin trading as sometimes FX bonus accounts are not available for some of them. As for the withdrawal, some forex bonus brokers limit the maximum profit available to withdraw from the account. So, do not miss this field before you start trading on your no deposit FX bonus account.
- Bonuses are frequently represented only in 1 currency equivalent. However, there are many no deposit bonuses that evaluate a similar amount in your local currency, so doing your research in order to figure out how to join forex trading without making any deposits is a good way for ensuring success in the long run.

No deposit bonus as an alternative – is it worth it?
So, now that you know what no deposit bonuses are and how they work, one question remains active: is it actually worth it to sign up for one yourself? Will you get any significant benefit from it?
The answer to that question is subjective; some traders can definitely find use in this type of promotion by amassing a small account balance and then turning it into a full-blown trading career. But in order to do so, you need to be very careful not to catch a scammer instead of a legitimate promotion issuer.

Making money by forex trading

There is no denying that COVID-19 has had a grave impact financially around the world. A lot of people are looking for extra income streams, and one option that is definitely a possibility is trading. However, trading is not something you can learn overnight. If you rush into the process without any care or consideration, you could end up costing yourself a lot of money, and that is the last thing that anyone needs right now. With that in mind, continue reading to discover more about how to learn to trade forex successfully.
Learning to trade forex
You want to deal in foreign exchange currency, one of the most accessible financial markets there is; and learning the basics is quite simple. However, the basics will only take you so far and could lead to trial and error style trading. Choosing the right forex trader training can take the guesswork out of the process.
When choosing to learn how to trade forex you need to consider a wide range of elements including the amount you want to spend and what you expect to get out of your education. The most beneficial forex trading programs will take you beyond a simplistic perception of how the exchange operates and will rather focus on educating you on how to follow the actions of other traders.
This is significant because it will prevent you from performing the most basic trading error; following the pack. Centering your tactics on copying what the bulk of traders are doing, simply because they are doing it, is the easiest route to losing the funds in your trading account.
By becoming proficient at examining their performance you can consider the efficacy of their reactions and take the most suitable trading movement. This is valid whether you are making the trades yourself or operating via a broker. While nothing is ever guaranteed in the world of trading, no matter how experienced you are, you will put yourself in a much better position if you increase your knowledge.
Why FX training courses are better than trial and error
One of the reasons why trading on the foreign exchange currency market is so popular is because anyone can have a go. But, there is a big difference between playing the markets and winning. One of the differences comes from FX training courses. Read on to find out why.
Becoming a dealer in foreign exchange is as easy as setting up an account on a forex trading app and dealing with a small amount of money. Of course, this is only one way to approach this; you could instead go through a broker, or choose a fully automated set up. However, without any background or knowledge, you are likely to only win and make a profit through trial and error. It is possible to achieve this, but if you want to be sure of making a decent profit it is better to learn how to trade forex effectively. This is possible through one of the comprehensive forex trading courses that are available.
By improving your education in this way you will be able to spot errors before you make them, rather than after they have cost you money. This doesn’t mean you will always buy or sell at the right time, but it does improve your percentages. The best of the programs available will teach you more than how to develop strategies and systems. They will also teach you how to understand and use other people’s behavior. This means that you will discover how to see what others are doing, and why. Once you know this you are able to make trades based on education, rather than just following the lead of other traders.
How much can you expect to spend and what for?
You’ve decided to undertake an education course to support your foreign exchange currency dealing. However, choosing between all the online forex trading courses is difficult, especially when it comes to understanding what you are getting for your money. Read on and find out some of the elements you should expect to find.
Forex trading courses will differ firstly depending on whether you enter needing a beginner or more experienced program, for those looking to advance their skills and earnings. A beginner’s course may be found for free, but these courses are limited both in their scope and in the support you receive. A slightly more advanced course that provides more in-depth detail and at least some online, email or phone support is likely to set your trader account back in the region of $600. The emphasis in these programs is on learning from the errors and mistakes made by the dealer, turned trainer, and incorporating their ideas into your trading strategies. There is nothing wrong with this version of how to trade forex, except one, it is limited in its ability to work and to make you a reasonable profit. If you are serious about working the markets, then you need a course that provides you with a unique way of looking at the FX and provides you with transferable skills that can be used on the futures market or when dealing with stocks and shares. What sets these more advanced courses apart is that they delve into the psychology of human behavior and how this can inform your trades. This expertise is not cheap, costing a little under $2,000 in most cases, but the price is worth every cent if you choose with care.
How to pick the right forex trading course for you
Trading forex involves exchanging one currency for another. It’s a simple idea that can be entered into by anyone with a small amount of capital. However, to get the most from your experience it’s best to get some training. You can find forex trading courses online, but, which are worth the money?
The most important thing to remember when looking for support in how to trade forex is that there is no guarantee of ever making money on the markets. Avoid any course option that makes any type of specific financial promise or guarantee. There is a range of forex trading courses covering different aspects of the market, that have their own ideas on what you need to know to increase your chances of success. So, it is important to read through the course outlines carefully before you enter into anything, and certainly before you part with any money from your account. Check exactly what you are getting for your fees and look for any hidden extras; you may be expected to buy further materials or recommended reading.
Also, for your own peace of mind check the duration of the course and how much work you are expected to put in; make sure you can fit it around your other commitments. Finally, check the provider’s reputation with brokers. Read reviews and see how past students have fared. Remember it is not just about how much money they have made, it’s about the amount of trader support strategies received, access to and quality of resources, and the ease of communication.
So there you have it: everything you need to know about learning to trade forex. We hope that this information will help you on your journey and enable you to find the best forex trading courses for your requirements. With many different options on the market today, it is important to narrow down your search effectively and choose a provider you can trust.
Can forex trading make you rich?
Can forex trading make you rich? Although our instinctive reaction to that question would be an unequivocal "no,” we should qualify that response. Forex trading may make you rich if you are a hedge fund with deep pockets or an unusually skilled currency trader. But for the average retail trader, rather than being an easy road to riches, forex trading can be a rocky highway to enormous losses and potential penury.
But first, the stats. A bloomberg article in nov. 2014 noted that based on reports to their clients by two of the biggest forex companies at the time—gain capital holdings inc. (GCAP) and FXCM inc.—68% of investors had net losses from trading currencies in the prior year. While this could be interpreted to mean that about one in three traders does not lose money trading currencies, that's not the same as getting rich trading forex.
Key takeaways
- Many retail traders turn to the forex market in search of fast profits.
- Statistics show that most aspiring forex traders fail, and some even lose large amounts of money.
- Leverage is a double-edged sword, as it can lead to outsized profits but also substantial losses.
- Counterparty risks, platform malfunctions, and sudden bursts of volatility also pose challenges to would-be forex traders.
- Unlike stocks and futures that trade on exchanges, forex pairs trade in the over-the-counter market with no central clearing firm.
Note that the bloomberg numbers were cited just two months before an unexpected seismic shock in the currency markets highlighted the risks of forex trading. On jan. 15, 2015, the swiss national bank abandoned the swiss franc's cap of 1.20 against the euro that it had in place for three years. as a result, the swiss franc soared as much as 41% against the euro on that day.
The surprise move from switzerland's central bank inflicted losses running into the hundreds of millions of dollars on innumerable participants in forex trading, from small retail investors to large banks. Losses in retail trading accounts wiped out the capital of at least three brokerages, rendering them insolvent, and took FXCM, then the largest retail forex brokerage in the united states, to the verge of bankruptcy.
Unexpected one time events are not the only risk facing forex traders. Here are seven other reasons why the odds are stacked against the retail trader who wants to get rich trading the forex market.
Excessive leverage
Although currencies can be volatile, violent gyrations like that of the aforementioned swiss franc are not that common. For example, a substantial move that takes the euro from 1.20 to 1.10 versus the U.S. Dollar over a week is still a change of less than 10%. Stocks, on the other hand, can easily trade up or down 20% or more in a single day. But the allure of forex trading lies in the huge leverage provided by forex brokerages, which can magnify gains (and losses).
A trader who shorts $5,000 worth of euros against the U.S. Dollar at 1.20 and then covers the short position at 1.10 would make a tidy profit of $500 or 8.33%. If the trader used the maximum leverage of 50:1 permitted in the U.S. (ignoring trading costs and commissions) the profit is $25,000, or 416.67%.
Of course, had the trader been long euro at 1.20, used 50:1 leverage, and exited the trade at 1.10, the potential loss would have been $25,000. In some overseas jurisdictions, leverage can be as much as 200:1 or even higher. Because excessive leverage is the single biggest risk factor in retail forex trading, regulators in a number of nations are clamping down on it.
Asymmetric risk to reward
Seasoned forex traders keep their losses small and offset these with sizable gains when their currency call proves to be correct. Most retail traders, however, do it the other way around, making small profits on a number of positions but then holding on to a losing trade for too long and incurring a substantial loss. This can also result in losing more than your initial investment.
Platform or system malfunction
Imagine your plight if you have a large position and are unable to close a trade because of a platform malfunction or system failure, which could be anything from a power outage to an internet overload or computer crash. This category would also include exceptionally volatile times when orders such as stop-losses do not work. For instance, many traders had tight stop-losses in place on their short swiss franc positions before the currency surged on jan. 15, 2015. However, these proved ineffective because liquidity dried up even as everyone stampeded to close their short franc positions.

The best way to learn forex trading

If you've looked into trading forex online and feel it's a potential opportunity to make money, you may be wondering about the best way to get your feet wet and learn how to get started in forex trading.
It's important to have an understanding of the markets and methods for forex trading so that you can more effectively manage your risk, make winning trades, and set yourself up for success in your new venture.
The importance of getting educated
To trade effectively, it's critical to get a forex education. You can find a lot of useful information on forex here at the balance. Spend some time reading up on how forex trading works, making forex trades, active forex trading times, and managing risk, for starters.
As you may learn over time, nothing beats experience, and if you want to learn forex trading, experience is the best teacher. When you first start out, you open a forex demo account and try out some demo trading. It will give you a good technical foundation on the mechanics of making forex trades and getting used to working with a specific trading platform.
A fundamental thing you may learn through experience, that no amount of books or talking to other traders can teach, is the value of closing your trade and getting out of the market when your reason for getting into a trade is invalidated.
It is very easy for traders to think the market will come back around in their favor. You would be surprised how many traders fall prey to this trap and are amazed and heartbroken when the market only presses further against the direction of their original trade.
The famous and painfully true statement from john maynard keynes states, "the market can stay irrational, longer than you can stay solvent." in other words, it does little good to say the market is acting irrationally and that it will come around (meaning in the direction of your trade) because extreme moves define capital markets in the first place.
Use a micro forex account
The downfall of learning forex trading with a demo account alone is that you don't get to experience what it's like to have your hard-earned money on the line. Trading instructors often recommend that you open a micro forex trading account or an account with a variable-trade-size broker that will allow you to make small trades.
Trading small will allow you to put some money on the line, but expose yourself to very small losses if you make mistakes or enter into losing trades. This will teach you far more than anything that you can read on a site, book, or forex trading forum and gives an entirely new angle to anything that you'll learn while trading on a demo account.
Learn about the currencies you trade
To get started, you'll need to understand what you're trading. New traders tend to jump in and start trading anything that looks like it moves. They usually will use high leverage and trade randomly in both directions, usually leading to loss of money.
Understanding the currencies that you buy and sell makes a big difference. for example, a currency may be bouncing upward after a large fall and encourage inexperienced traders to "try to catch the bottom." the currency itself may have been falling due to bad employment reports for multiple months. Would you buy something like that? Probably not, and this is an example of why you need to know and understand what you buy and sell.
Currency trading is great because you can use leverage, and there are so many different currency pairs to trade. it doesn't mean, however, that you need to trade them all. It's better to pick a few that have no relation and focus on those. Having only a few will make it easy to keep up with economic news for the countries involved, and you'll be able to get a sense of the rhythm of the currencies involved.
After you've been trading with a small live account for a while and you have a sense of what you're doing, it's ok to deposit more money and increase your amount of trading capital. Knowing what you're doing boils down to getting rid of your bad habits, understanding the market and trading strategies, and gaining some control over your emotions. If you can do that, you can be successful trading forex.
Managing risk
Managing risk and managing your emotions go hand in hand. When people feel emotional, greedy or fearful, that is when they make mistakes with risk, and it's what causes failure. When you look at a trading chart, approach it with a logical, objective mindset that only sees the presence or lack of potential; it shouldn't be a matter of excitement. If pulling the trigger on a trade feels emotional in any way, you should re-evaluate why you're not able to be objective.
The balance does not provide tax, investment, or financial services and advice. The information is being presented without consideration of the investment objectives, risk tolerance or financial circumstances of any specific investor and might not be suitable for all investors. Past performance is not indicative of future results. Investing involves risk including the possible loss of principal.
